Hi Kerry,
just found this post, its a nice vase, it looks like 'Battuto' cut to me, have a look at my glasses here,
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,27315.0.html
and google the term battuto
Its quite a time consuming cut, and done by some of the best Murano makers,
(although its probably been copied by other areas of the world)
I think its a very nice object, hopefully some Murano experts will find the post, and
tell you more,
Cheers
Andy
(may be worth asking a moderator to move to Murano board?)
Anita, have you seen this one??
 ;)

Thanks Andy, had a look at the goblets in the link you gave me, then had a look at the surface of my vase, it definitely looks like unpolished cuts, done by hand on my vase ( as they are not uniform in size) so I am quite excited that it could be Murano Battuto!!! A check of google is very encouraging too - looks like same technique as other pieces attributed to the method there too.  Thanks, Kerry.

Hi, any help with more info on my vase would be greatly appreciated, 30cm tall, 1.2 kg.  Have been told it may be Murano Battuto cut, thanks, Kerry.

Hi Kerry:  I saw this thread before but didn't comment. I find it really hard to see the piece, especially the colours, against such a busy and varied background. Photos against a white background would help greatly.

David.

Hi David, here are a couple of more pics - the second is little distorted, please excuse the very poor photography - if they aren't good enough, i will take  some more later on when it's not at hot, my laptop can't handle the 38 degree heat!   Thanks, Kerry.

Kerry:

These are much clearer. Now can you send me a little bit of your 38 degrees, not all of it. It's -5 C here as we have an Arctic outflow.

I'm sure you've found out that battuto is a hot style right now, which doesn't help id your piece. There are quite a few current Murano artists using it. The most stunning I've seen are by Afro Celotto and Laura de Santillana (Alessandro Diaz de Santillana also does battuto). Battuto is also used by studio glass people and in Scandinavia. I would expect pieces from all three of thee categories to be signed. Which leaves older Murano or some place else; there are, for example other places in Italy that produce battuto. Battuto also seems to be made where labour is cheap, India, for example.

Would where you bought it provide any clues? You say you're some place hot right now.

My feeling is that it's not Murano, older or newer. It looks like it's a nice piece of glass, but I'd lean to a less well known maker, like the last two place I mentioned.

I'd be interested to her what others say about the colours.

BTW, I'd buy it if it came my way at a reasonable price, so I don't think you've made a 'mistake.'

Thank you very much for your help David - I should have mentioned I am in Rockhampton, Central Queensland, Australia - About as far from Arctic outflows as you can get!
I paid $10 Australian for the vase in a charity shop.  Usually you find things there people clean out of elderly relative's homes when they pass away - but that is not always the case.  Thanks a lot for the info you have given me - I am very happy with my lovely vase and now I know a little more about the lovely "Battuto" cut - I can endeavour to add a genuine piece to my collection! Best wishes, Kerry.

$10? My only concern would be that I broke it in my rush to pay for it.

I'll keep looking.

Kerry. I love a good charity shop find! I think this piece is a good find for $10. The colours in that a stunning.

Although i feel it may be newer. This is just what I think on the colours in it along with the fact it is not signed. Don't discount it could be Japanese as well. Although i have not seen a battuto cut piece from Japan in Australia or held one. I must note, just because it is Japanese doesn't mean it is bad either! You can tell the better made stuff than from the rest. So handle as many pieces as possible even if you aren't going to buy it. Then you know what not to look for!

Just a note to be careful. I'm sure I've seen something similar brand new in a homeware shop lately.

Kerry, I've merged both your threads into the one, just so that all the info is kept together.
