I was lucky last weekend and found my first Exbor fish :chky:
(Once again unmarked)
Life has not been very kind to this guy, as he is missing major parts of his back fins I guess -- but they have been quite nicely repaired (and I like the idea that some former owner cared so much for this piece of glass). I am still extremely happy and think he is a beauty nevertheless! :)
Here are the promised pics...

Oh Michael, he's absolutely, positively beautiful! I love the colours, and everything about it... Such a lucky man! And I do hope you will find a second, and a third, and then post them as they come along.
FANTASTIC!!! :rah: :rah: :rah:
Edited to add: Even my husband who despises 99% of the glass I show him says that your fish is a true beauty. ;D
-
and it looks like he's missing his back fins too, but he's still a very nice fish indeed! :hiclp:
-
Thanks a lot for the nice comments!
I really do not mind much that the back fins are missing -- the rest of him is still beautiful...
I guess he was some sort of swordtail once, now he looks more like a carp :)
Funny thing is that I am not able to find Exbor pieces with the proper acid stamp; this is my 5th piece so far, 3 are unmarked, 1 has a Borocrystal mark, and 1 is marked "II" (so a second I guess).

Does the 'II' on Exbor pieces really imply a second?
Back in April, there was a P. Hlava blue, yellow and clear cased vase (much like on page 115 of Hi Sklo) on offer on Allegro (as Murano) with a starting price of 150PLN. It had a II at the bottom which confused me. From what I could see, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the vase. The piece went unsold.

Oh and Michael, even with the damage (which, honestly, I don't necessarily see), your fish is fabulous.
And I am jealous. ;D
-
I have seen Exbor stamped Stanislav Honzik fish at Solihull fair.
Unfortunately Exbor fishes were produced for many years also recently - see catalogue from 2009

Well, I'd even be perfectly happy with a fish from recent production... They're beautiful, newer or older. ;D
-
Thanks, Anik and Jindrich!
Like Anik, I do not really mind if it is newer or older production - I think they are all great! :)
And impossible to find out anyway...
But my fish doesn't appear in the 2009 catalogue Jindrich kindly provided, so at least older than that.
BTW, this is very odd: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,17384.0.html (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,17384.0.html)

Michael, there is a fish similar enough to yours in the the 1965/12 CGR: http://picasaweb.google.com/Jindra8526/Glasrevue196512?authkey=Gv1sRgCOnBr_SphIi3hwE#5443269031071868082
As for the fish in the other link, I would have never thought 'Exbor'... I wouldn't even have thought 'Czech'. (http://serve.mysmiley.net/confused/confused0048.gif) (http://www.mysmiley.net)
Is it really Exbor???
-
Thanks for the link, Anik!
There is a very similar one in the 1969 Exbor catalogue on Jindrich's site (with almost the same colours as in mine): http://picasaweb.google.com/Jindra8526/EXBOR1969?authkey=Gv1sRgCLLirYHLk7vLCQ#5434393024940890002 (http://picasaweb.google.com/Jindra8526/EXBOR1969?authkey=Gv1sRgCLLirYHLk7vLCQ#5434393024940890002)
Regarding the link to the strange fish I posted above: I would think there has to be a mistake, as the last thing that one resembles is an Exbor fish :usd:

I've taken a look at Frank's Glass Zoo, and the bloated fish is there... it's got an "Exbor Made in Czech Republic" label stuck to its lumpy-bumpy bottom. It all seems very 'fishy'.
-
But even if it is made in Czech Republic, it seems far off...
I had a look throught the Exbor 2009 catalogues on Jindrich's site, but though there are many Chribska-like things there is nothing similar to that fish.

Hello Michaela and welcome to the Glass Message Board.
Do you collect Czech glass? Have you got an Exbor fish? (I'm still dreaming of finding one... maybe one day...) Ah, questions, questions...
:hi:
-
Hello Anik :) I'm beginner...in comparison with you, collecting just for few months (6-8). In terms of fish I have 1 piece but common ZBS not Exbor :o) maybe one day ;)
-
I've been interested in glass for a bit over a year, so also a beginner. ;D
It's great to have another Czech glass collector on the board... by the way, I love ZBS fish and animals. I've got two fish and one owl-like creature.
Michael, I apologise for hijacking your thread. (http://serve.mysmiley.net/ashamed/ashamed0005.gif) (http://www.mysmiley.net/free-jumping-smileys.php) Back to Exbor fish.
-
A bit early to trash the blown fish, it was found at a time when Exbor was not a very well known company so dubious label addition is not highly likely. It is also a very well made fish of that popular genre, you have to compare like with like. To undo a label attribution you either prove the factory did not produce the item or identify another that did. Also best to discuss in original thread :girlcheer:
-
And another Exbor fish with chips ;D
Same colours as the first one, this one has the acid stamp and a very interesting label I haven't seen before (Grand Prix Expo 58...)
Michael
-
Two fish now? I'm still waiting for my first one... Michael, your third one will certainly be in perfect condition and a bargain -- at least, that's what I'm hoping. :)
Very nice find!
-
Now that's an interesting label on a beautiful fish. In Hi Sklo Lo Sklo it states that the idea for this fish came from the sculptures that Vera Liskova was doing for Moser and which were to be included in the World Exposition in Brussels. I wonder if this fish was sent there, too.
David
-
Thanks Anik and David!
I had to "rescue" him because he is such a nice companion for the other one :) (and he wasn't expensive, guess why)
I don't know if the label indicates that Exbor fish were sent to the Expo 58; I would rather guess that it just means something like "... pieces like this won us a Grand Prix in Brussels Expo..." (similar to some vases which were discussed on the Murano board recently). But I would think that Expo fame should indicate that this particular piece wasn't produced many years later.
On the other hand Exbor fish were shown in 1959 CGR issues already...
Michael

My third Exbor fish 8)
And my first in marvellous condition.
He is really beautiful, and as an added bonus has an "Exbor Czechoslovakia" acid stamp.
@ David: yours is stunning, great colours!
Michael
Thank you, B.!
-
Wow thats fabulouse , obviously a bottom feeder , perfect pose . Love it .
-
BEAUTIFUL, Michael!!!
-
These are all so beautiful, and the colours are so lovely.
Now I'm starting to think that it is time to add some fishes to my collection!
I was only going to collect birds, then added animals and then some humans, then a snail and a few frogs, so I suppose I would be considered 'fishist' if I didn't have a few!
I'll go and have a look see and see if there are any swimming around in the Bay of E!
Race you there Michael!! :)
-
Before Rosie sees it fabulouse was a typo , or maybe French
-
Il est fabuleux, n'est-ce pas ;)
Thanks for the nice comments!
Rosie, you have to add one or the other fish to your glass animal collection -- their streamline shapes with fluid lines are suited perfectly to be made of glass...
Michael
-
I will... promise Michael, and tell you all when I have got one....does an octopus count? I have one of those made by Adam? ;D
-
Hi guys!
I recently found an Exbor fish on a fleamarket too. Only today i could ID it. Pics follow in a couple of minutes.
Here's an interesting site from an Exbor fish collector:

;D
Wow, thank-you so much for adding your pics. That is a glorious beast!
-
Hi Sue!
I like it too :-)
Sadly has 2 small chips...

Micha
-
A real fish might well have a few nibbles out of its fins. I wouldn't worry about it. He's still stunningly beautiful - he looks as if he's underwater, swimming around.
-
you are absolutely right :-)
-
Beautiful colours in your fish, Micha. :)
Michael
-
Beautiful fish!
-
thank you guys, and it was really a bargain :-)
-
Beautiful Michael , lets just call it a fish fillet . ;)
