Title: VEB Ilmkristall, Ilmenau GDR.
Post by: Anne E.B. on March 11, 2006, 02:47:30 PM
I'm almost certain this multi-faceted, geometric vase is made by VEB Ilmkristall, Ilmenau, GDR.   It has highly polished sides and thick heavy crystal base.

I've checked Ivo's A-Z and it seems like VEB was the name for a collective works (c1950-1990).  Does anyone have any further information.  I reckon the vase is c1970s.

Any thoughts please would be much appreciated. :P

the orange one is certified Ilmkristall from around 1982 - stickers 'n all, and purchased in the GDR.

Thanks Ivo.  That's a pretty unusual shape vase and rather nice8) .

My blue one is very similar to a red one I had some years ago. It had the same highly polished multi-faceted sides and heavy crystal base, but that one was simpler in design with just plain vertical sides.   At the time I spotted an identical one to mine on a reputable website, attributing it to Ilmkristall, so I figured mine was too.  My current blue vase bears all the same hallmarks as the other one and I just felt that it too was Ilmkristall.
I've spotted the odd one since on eBay but never with an attribution.
