Title: Pleas help identify ruby red vase
Post by: CLB on February 25, 2014, 03:59:14 PM
I'd be very grateful if anyone would help me identify this ovoid ruby red vase. It is 21.5cm tall; good quality glass with a 'dimple' in each side. The top is cut flat, with a slight chamfered edge all round. The base is ground flat and is not signed. Many thanks in advance.

Hiya welcome to the board. Cut top AND bottom usually point at a reworked item as in production terms it makes no sense to have both. There are exceptions of course. Red glass usually points at one of three major makers: Reijmyre, WMF and Whitefriars. And if all of those are discarded, try Empoli, Friedrich, Sarner and suchlike.
Good luck - it is a vast field....

Hi , it looks like  pattern number 9631 , Whitefriars , ruby designed and made by Mike Cripps.

They have a chamfered edge on the outside and inside of the rim .

Cheers, Mike.

Thank you very much to both of you, especially Mike. I am very happy to believe you are right, that the axe is Whitefriars, although the ruby colour seems stronger/deeper than the later cased objects. I can't tell you the hours I've spent trying to find it's origins and you've solved it for me in no time at all. Thank you again. Carol
