Title: No 4 layered millefiori - Murano? = ID Paul Ysart

This is a beautiful one as well, the Millefiori seem to be in two layers, you can see from the side on pic that the centre is a higher layer than the outer ring.

I would assume Murano, but can it be tightened up to a maker and/or time scale at all?

What you have there is a very good, unsigned, "Central Cluster" design (my terminology) by Paul Ysart. Most likely 1930s period.

So can you tell me, now I have a weight in front of me, what would be the giveaway signs to tell me it is Ysart rather than Murano? -   apart from knowing the pattern, of course!

Canes, Paul Ysart has many distinctive canes and these can be easily seen on Kevin's and my site. Though Kevin is the most detailed on canes and recognition, my site is intended more for first level ID of basic design.

Looks like I have a summer of post graduate detailed study in front of me.

I don't THINK I have misdiagnosed others as Murano, and undersold them, but who knows???

Sorry that my limited knowledge of other makers can't help identify the weight,but what I can add is that from the images of the weight ,it looks as if the millefiori is actually on one layer.The "two layer"effect is because the outer ring has been pulled down as the centre layer has risen.This happens while the weight is getting "cut in" at the base ,near to the end of the making process.

Hi Allan, yes, looking at the supersize image, it seems to be an optical illusion, and if I look really closely I can see the faint line of the clear glass between the two sections of canes, all running in a smooth domed line.

Well, it took overnight (I didn't even have time to tell you about the listing in the Market Place!  :oops: ) for it to sell on a BIN, so thank you all very much for your help.

Now, of course, I am left wondering if I under priced it

 :lol:

No, I AM joking..... I am very happy with the sale, there were a couple of small flaws mentioned in the listing, so I think the price was very fair.
