Title: Whitefriars Peacock Studio Range Vase
Post by: Greg. on January 14, 2013, 01:58:28 PM
Hi All,
A new acquisition which I am fairly certain is a Whitefriars Studio Range Peacock vase, introduced by Peter Wheeler.

Heavily strapped with loads of silver chloride, full ground/concave base.

Measures just over 5.5 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide. Fairly heavy weighing 1.3kg!

Could anyone confirm if this would be pattern 'S8' at around 5.5 inches tall...?

An absolutely stunning piece of studio glass! - Pictures attached please enjoy.

Greg

A few final shots, a couple using flash to highlight the silver chloride in the strapping....

I agree completely, Greg. Peter Wheeler's Peacock.
Bestest and most beautiful thing wfs has ever done - and this is the most stunning example I've ever seen.
You lucky, lucky beast! :-*

Thanks Sue  :)

Very tactile piece indeed, I think I should put it down for a bit now!

I still cuddle my Sam. If we've been away, it's the first thing I cuddle after the cats.
I sit under a bright halogen light, marvelling at all the colours and shapes as I caress it and turn it around.

 ???

Did you use the inside of your kitchen drawers as the background... if you did, they match mine.  ;D

The background came from a few pieces that were left over after I fitted the kitchen last year! - well spotted!

Thanks Patrick, its a pleasure to own, very pleased to find this piece, wasn't sure it was Whitefriars at first, although seemed a little special without knowing its pedigree. Could you confirm if this would be classed as shape S8 or S7, it measures 5.5 inches tall..? I'm thinking its just a slightly larger version of S8, given the expected variation of studio produced pieces.

Thanks M, looking into this, as I understand it the 'peacock' finish comes from Whitefriars first studio range that was introduced in 1969, I don't know how long it was produced for, however, I don't think it was for long.

Tried to contact you through the messaging system but for some reason won't allow it.
