Last week I spent the day at Perth museum studying the Monart archives and came across this unusual shaped lamp P/18.
I must thank Sandra Martin, the assistant curator for being so helpful in making my day so enjoyable and informative.

Have to admit it is remarkably hideous, but it would be nice to get all the lamp shapes illustrated with examples!

Sorry, but I also think it's ugly, would you really want it sat on a table, the boring colour doesn't help. :girlcheer:
I'd like to offer you an alternative, it's not strictly a table lamp, it's a converted plaffonnier. It's 48 cms across and the weight must have caused one of the chain holes to crack. I bought it at Christies as it is now, the single Monart auction owner who sold her collection being French. For those of you who remember this auction will no doubt remember the hight reserve prices being asked for less than perfect pieces.
The plaffonnier was married together with a Monart vase and she must have had the brass fitment made. To cut what could be a long story, here's some photos - now I think this is beautiful, but what do you think?

yip very nice. any pics of it lit up, as for the Monart lamp base that everyone except for me seems to dislike :chky:, a few of you on here willno that i have a soft spot for Ysart Glass lamps having at one time over 50 lamps made by Monart Vasart and Strathearn and although not Ysart some by P/PWeights, so to me its all about sourcing different shapes and colourways, when at the height of collecting the lamps i never had two the same (they may have been duplicate shapes but all different colourways) so guess am just a sucker for the lamps whether its hideous or not to others its lovely to me :thup: :smg:

What makes this lamp a bit unusual, it is the only lamp Monart designed for use on a mantlepiece. The fabric shade must have been a bit angular to sit on the mantlepiece.

Very interesting, and informative, Gary. Possibly a flat backed shade? - rather like a Staffordshire flat back that also went on a mantle piece.
Although you show that the shape has/had a use it still doesn't appeal, I'm afraid :huh: :o
BTW also recorded in the orange, fawn/brown and white, having pull-ups and with white innner (within the Turner Collection) - which is more appealing colour way ;) :)
