Title: Stevens & Williams RD 55693 (registered 6 September 1886)
Post by: agincourt17 on July 02, 2012, 01:16:41 PM
Photo of RD 55693, registered to Stevens & Williams, Brierley Hill Glass Works on 6 September 1886. Clear glass.

Jenny Thompson gives the design as 'pattern for the ornamentation of glassware'.

I have also added photo to Anne's RD database gallery.

Does anyone know of examples of this RD in coloured glass?

55693 is one of those numbers you get to know, like 100004, and I was puzzled because I remembered it as S&W's Jewelled glass, and there isn't any on your example!    So I looked it up.

There's a very similar piece to yours, slightly larger, which Gulliver p.119 gives as S&W's pattern number 14099, carrying the same registration mark.   This example has two small Jewelled posy vases incorporated.

Illustrations, including coloured examples, can be seen in Gulliver pp. 119, 166 and 266 (registered design drawing), and Hajdamach I pp. 278 and 280.

I've had difficulty finding a reasonably permanent 55693 image on-line, so here's an auction image that could disappear at any time:

Hi I've only just come across this thread so as you were unsure of the stability of the images you posted (Bernard C), I thought I would post these images as they aren't going anywhere as this small Stevens and Williams jewelled glass belongs to me :D I hope this hasn't been posted too late for you though :/
It has the Rd 55693 engraved to the base, a carboot sale bargain quite a few years ago
If you need any other views from it, let me know :D
