Title: possible Scandinavian small vase????
Post by: bOBA on December 14, 2010, 08:06:23 PM
Hello everyone.

This is a small vase approximately 9 cm tall with asymmetric features .... Not my normal subject area but it looked possibly 1950's and interesting. It has no signature and an indented base like a large polished pontil rod mark but not really highly polished, feels more moulded. It confuses me slightly since the form is what I associate with blown glass but the interior suggests something inserted to mould the shape internally. If it has any recognisable features to anyone I would be interested. It could well be very modern, I have no idea. My thought was that modern pieces would likely be larger... I could be wrong!!! Any information or opinions welcome ...

Robert: An interesting little vase. I've seen similar exterior shapes from Orrefors, but not with the straight sides inside. Could it be a pressed candle holder or is it too big for that?

Is this enough to get you started on Scandinavian?

Thx David,

it is a curious thing. Its shape internally is elliptical, not suited to a candle, it is definitely a small vase. Whether it would persuade me to collect Scandinavian glass?... I think not, because I am not even sure it is Scandinavian at this point!! I would not mind collecting some Scandinavian glass though, especially since generally attributions can be made and factories seem quite distinctive... (I have far more fear of paperweights in that regard, though really fascinating things, I think attributions of weights would keep me awake at night...)
