Title: Flygsfors Flamingo designer
Post by: Level on August 30, 2007, 12:45:33 PM
I have a few pieces of Flamingo and was wondering if anyone knows who designed it? I know most of the pieces are dated after Kedelv left but I do own one piece signed Flygfors-52 and Flamingo.

Hi Level,

As far as I am aware, these were also designed by Paul Kedelv, though not as common as the Coquille series.

Paul Kedelv was a desiger at Flygsfors from 1949 - 1956

It is my understanding he designed the Flamingo series.

Thanks for the replies. Are there any examples of a Flamingo piece signed Kedelv?

It's always been my understanding that the Flamingo range was a collaboration between Paul Kedelv and Wiktor Berndt which was why the range never carried either name.

The piece I have dated '52 would have been made before Berndt was at Flygsfors though.

Could it be 62 ? I've seen two with dates in the '60s - both were long narrow bowls in swirled green (light and dark) and red.

Definitely 52, its a small green dish with red and white squiggly lines. I'll see if I can post a picture.

Yep,

I rechecked my database and a bowl of this design was on Tradera last year, signed Flygsfors - 50 Flamingo. (don't know why I didn't see it last time !).
That blows my theory then.

I am curious as to why none of the Flamingo pieces have a designer signature.

Not quite the answer, but I thought this piece interesting.

The pattern is very similar to some of the Flamingo pieces, but signed Coquille, Flygfors- 56

Well that is curious. I put the photo of the piece I have back up if you want to see it. It is basicly the same piece.

It is most odd I agree - checking my records, another bowl of the same pattern was onTradera in Feb last year marked Flygsfors - 50 Flamingo.

Well, Lauritz will ship if you want an interesting pair !
