Title: Tiny Monart Dish but What Shape Please?
Post by: Mosquito on May 05, 2009, 12:54:52 PM
I've had this little Monart dish for a while now but am not sure what shape it is closest to. I've had a good look through the Monart catalogue pages on Frank's site but am wondering whether it's supposed to be GE, DF or another?

Diameter is 90mm (3.5 inches), height about 25 mm (1 inch).

Thanks,
Steven

I would go for the shape GE, I have one with near exact measurments as your one, and a larger one and both are GE. The DF shape appears to have a wider rim than the GE shape.

Or UB as both the other shapes have flattened rims.  UB was made in a lot of sizes and the smallness of this example would explain the 'off' proportion. Nice and unusual find.

Hi,

I understand the point you're making Frank, but I have one in this shape and size as well, and I also sold a labelled one on behalf of a customer a few years ago. If possible I will go back through my records to find it, but I'm a tad busy at present.

My memory says not UB, which is a very distinctive flared curve form.

Hope that helps a bit, Nigel

Hi,

Thanks to everyone who replied. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has trouble identifying the shape. I think Frank's observation about how the small size throws off the proportions is true in this case.

Just have to wait for another labelled one to turn up. I'm in no great rush to identify the shape, particularly as this piece will be staying in my collection. I was just curious, particularly when I could see no really close match on the catalogue pages.

Thanks agian,
Steven

I think I have a pic in the backlogs of a labelled UB this size and shape, but then the labels are occasionally incorrect with similar shapes - it was probably a contemporary problem at the factory too  ::)

I don't know if this will help the discussion forum on this dish, but I have a miniature 3.75" shape GE with label.   I've reduced the photo size and hope  it works!!
