Since I love what we call egg-in-the-cup, I'm thinking that's what it is, an egg cup. I'm leaning against saltcellar.

However, could it also be an eye wash cup?

No WO, much too big for an eye bath ... you would have to be goliath to use it

I am on the side of egg cup as well btw...

Hi Lynne,

What are the dimensions of your lion "egg cup"?  Also, does the cup kinda tilt?  I'm getting that impression from the photo.  Finally, how does it look holding an egg! :)  I'll have to sit on this for a bit ..... maybe something will hatch ....    Anyway, I have a great fondness for cats and find your lion interesting.

All the best .... Lily

Hi Lily,

yes, the cup sort of tilts a bit forwards.  The cup itself is 2 ins diameter (to outside of glass), and a large egg fits just, but sits a bit high.  A smaller egg would fit ok.  H is 2.75 ins tall , and the base is 2.75 ins long along the longest axis.  Sadly he also has a wee chip to his nose, but none of us is perfect....

  How about this little lion being a ring or earring holder!  The slight tilt might be advantageous for removing a small item.  Just a thought ...  :) It's not so bad being a bit off kilter; it gives one a different slant on the world.  A wee chip relieves one of the burden of being perfect as well.    By the way, your aqua :?:  :?:  :?: posting is a hoot!  Sounds like we all got a good laugh.

Til the next time ... Lily

Some sort of desk item, perhaps? Maybe paper clips were kept in it. Rubber bands? Perhaps it's held pins on a m'lady's vanity or dresser.

Again, gotta love a mystery.

Can't tell from the photo whether the rim is fire-polished or ground flat and polished...if the latter then it may have started offf life a bit taller and a bit straighter.

Its a curved edge Adam, with a slight ridge of a mould line to the inside edge.  I think this is how he started.  He's definitely moulded.

I still wonder about a salt, as you can certainly get two fingers in there to get the salt.

I really want to know who and when if anyone has any ideas?

In that case, I'm leaning towards a salt, too :D

Good grief.  We are all leaning here.

I don't suppose anyone has any ideas about the spotty vase?  Other than acne???
