Most certainly not!  ;D
That is a quality piece, and I would think Scottish.
Strathearn or Perthshire, rather than earlier, I would think.  :)

Somebody who knows Strathearn and Perthshire weights should be able to confirm exactly what it is.
Just have a wee bit of patience until they pop in! :)

I think that's just because wfs is easily recognisable because everything is really well-catalogued, precise ids are easy to find - especially by somebody who has studied the catalogues for a long time and is familiar with them.
Other makers aren't always quite so simple. :)

Surprised,  ::) normally Perthshire and Strathearn usually get plenty of comments don't know enough to make a comment myself, now if it was Whitefriars that would be different  ;D
Funnily enough I feel like that about Selkirk weights I post on here.

Have you tried emailing pics to Richard More? It does look Strathearn to me.

Hello.
I've trawled his excellent site with no joy.the aurora suggestion was close but the bubbles are all wrong and they only occur in a ring around the top although between the waves of colour around the base there are elongated bubbles following the upright curves..maybe it was a second or not quite right I'm sure an identity will be forthcoming.i love Selkirk weights......

Hi
I just thought that there are some galleries with no pictures or descriptions and maybe Richard knows what these missing ones should be?
Sorry I wouldn't say it was Sekirk though?

I think there is considerably less known about Selkirk than Strathearn or Perthshire - it's only fairly recently come to the attention of collectors.
My guts are on Strathearn for this one a bit more than they are for Perthshire, but when it comes to these scrambly bubbly weights, you can't really expect two weights from the same range to be absolutely identical... that would be something wfs would have strived for; consistency, but that's not nearly so important to some other makers.

Not sure if you know of this link. http://s111.photobucket.com/albums/n139/skiando/Selkirk%20Glass%20Scotland/
A bit of a mish/mash but quite a few Selkirk catalogue images here.
Which may be useful to you.

I have scanned all Selkirk catalogues (publication on Scotland's Glass is work in progress): not in there.

Not in the "Perthshire Complete Guide" either - nor in any later (post 1997) catalogues in my possession.

Definitely not Strathearn Aurora.

Unless given a better alternative, I would vote for "Strathearn Experimental": anyone actually asked Richard More yet?

hello Wuff.
i agree its not aurora ive jusrt bought one for compare.thanks for trawling the perthshire for me i havent got that reference apart from on the scottish glass pages which ive been through 1st before posting.ive did the strathearns too.its good to have something of a mystery and im pleased its not a duffer, there is alot of random wear to the base which i was thinking may make it earlier than i think but again im just guessing.
thanks to all.happy hunting.

I think this is a "twisted variation" of the Strathearn Aurora design and the twisting has elongated many of the bubbles.

The coloured chips used in yours are much the same as in my D29 Jumbo version, which is the Green one shown in Richard More's site (unless he has updated it with another example). Mine is 4 x 3.5 inch (102 x 90 mm) but the other example is clearly more spherical, as is yours.

However, depending on the actual size and the number of rows of bubbles, it could be based on the P28 Large. Richard points out that both the Jumbo and the Large were made with a Grey background and I think that is what yours has.

Could you please give height and diameter and if possible the number of bubbles rising up the twisted ridges. I cannot easily estimate the bubble count from your photos but it appears to be greater than 10. My D29 definitely has 13 rows of bubbles.

the weight has 21 spirals.measures 4.25"h x 3.75"base dia.weighs 1.935 kilos.there is a ring of tiny bubbles to the top crown but 2 are missing.i have added a pic of the larger bubbles,i have tampered with the colours to show them up better.happy hunting.

hi kev h.
thanks for that i will remember that for future reference as p/ws are my next thing to learn and understand...........more.
i have had the pleasure of speaking to Richard Moore(nice man)and although he isnt certain eitherway as yet on my weight he is leaning away from strathearn but i will be supplying him with some more detail accurate pics and we are going to take it from there......
happy hunting.
