I purchased this today for a not-too-harsh £18. T'is the same shape, size (10") & proportions as the one shown on Frank's marvellous site, and the design is very much along the same lines... but the colours are different...
What think we of it?

They tend to sell for a bit more, 200ish on eBay and in excess of 1,000 in some Scottish antiques shops. Quite a bargain.
-
Oh, so it is genuine then? Hurray.
I know that they go for a fair amount of money on eBay - one the same colour as shown on your site went for £210 last night. Actually if it wasn't for spotting the one on eBay, I would have gone straight past the one I bought yesterday.
But £1,000? Are they mad?
Edit: Apologies to anyone who would pay / has paid £1,000 for a lamp like this... but I'm tightfisted and 99% of the time only buy things if they're utter bargains! :D

Well done Pinkspoons on getting such a bargain, well spotted. I would love one day to find such a bargain to make up for all the times I spent too much when I first started buying Ysart glass. I have one lamp which I paid £150 for which is not a bad price for a Vasart lamp but it will probably remain my only one, unless I am as eagle eyed and as lucky as you. :)
-
Thanks! And going on what the lamp last night on eBay sold for, £150 doesn't seem like too bad a price at all! :)
Though, to be honest, this will most likely end up as shop stock in the new year when I launch my little online emporium of all things designer clutter! :D
-
But £1,000? Are they mad?
Now yes, in a few years maybe not. Increasing interest and short supply.
-
Oh, I forgot to ask - does anybody know who designed the tulip lamp? I can't claim to know anything much about Vasart.
Hurray, though, I got around to taking better photographs:

Probably Salvador.

Thanks. :)

I've been thinking about selling this lamp before the New Year to add a bit of spending money to my holiday fund - what's the best way to achieve maximum price for Vasart? (I'm not expecting £1,000+ by the way  ) It's just that I know nothing about the market for it.
Looking through past auction house catalogues listed online, Vasart seems to not fair so well at them - not even up in Scotland - and usually realise £100-£50 less than on eBay.
Always open to suggestions. :)
-
They usually do fine on eBay. To get top price you will need a top-market shop in Bond St or similar :)
-
Ah, well I don't have one of those to hand so I suspect eBay will have to do!
It will probably go live in a couple of days. I'll pop it in the marketplace when it does.
Oh, Frank, it says on your site that you want photos of Vasart colour variations, etc... I don't know if this one is any use to you?

Size:
D: 130mm H: 255mm
The photo matches very closely the actual colour (a rosey-marshmallowy pink swirled into a grey-white) - on my monitor at least. :)
If it's no use to you, then c'est la vie! :D

Hi Nic,
Thanks, will add it the list, the raised foot one is a good pic too. That is an important pointer for genuine lamps.

Hi
I bought a Vasart Tulip Lamp for just under £100.00 (antique shop) in October 2004 and sold for £155.00 on eBay.
Seeing that they now generally sell on eBay for around £200.00 is proof as Frank says they have and are growing scarcer.
However you can still buy for around £100.00 in many shops in Glasgow shops like 'Relics' or 'The Victorian Village'
Edinburgh is expensive but Glasgow is still good to buy retail.
There is a lot of Monart and Vasart still on the street in Glasgow. I live in the West End and most windows I pass have pieces of Monart, Vasart and Strathearn in the window. One house has a shelf right up against the window, with about 30 pieces of glass I assume to be Vasart - I really want to take a picture but am scared I will get my 'collar felt' for casing the joint LOL
The auctions are good as well -
McTears & Co www.mctears.co.uk
Anyone with a larger pocket should head for http://www.timwright-antiques.com/ see Monart section - he has a lot more in store - I think he is the most expensive dealer selling Monart/Vasart in Glasgow - he does get large pieces with original labels and he gives good discounts
