Title: White Splatter - ID = Mdina
Post by: Tinker-Taylor on October 02, 2009, 10:34:13 AM
The glass is really quite thick, and the vase is quite heavy for it's 6½" height.

The pontil is flat and polished.

I was thinking Mdina but would welcome any correction.

TIA
Stu.

Thanks Keith - that's pretty conclusive - it looks just the same, give or take.

Re: 'sommerso' and my (not fluent) understanding of the language and pattern of the vase, isn't the pattern, strictly speaking, submerged in a similar way to that which was first created by the Venetians?

What I wouldn't want anyone to think is that I had any delusions about this vase being Venetian; I was only seeking to use the often-used term for submerged colour.

 :) :) :) :)

Sommerso, broadly speaking, just refers to coloured (but generally transparent) glass encased in a layer of clear glass. But, being an Italian term, it might be perceived as disingenuous when applied to non-Italian glass.

It would have been nice to read the article on sommerso without much of the text being obscured by intrusive advertising.

Ah yes, that's a more classic Mdina top too.  If you type Mdina into ebay, you'll see a few in the same style but in pink with blue swirls.  Really nice vases though - congrats!   :)
