Title: What is this vase?
Post by: sgqmod on October 21, 2017, 02:09:15 PM
Looking for any info on this vase I have. A sticker on it says It is murano glass - Vetri 004. After much research I can't find anything like it really. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the board. The Vetri number is the clue here... 004 belongs to Vetreria LAG Srl (Melograno BLU) 004. You will find more details about Vetri numbers here: http://www.fossilfly.com/Forums/archive/index.php/t-2629.html

Vetreria LAG Srl (Melograno BLU) 004.

So what is 'Vetreria LAG Srl'? The Factory? If yes what does 'Melograno BLU' mean in relation to it?

I cant find much about Vetreria LAG Srl at all. And it seems that melogranoblu is a relatively new company. I guess the vase looks relatively contemporary however, melogranoblu seem to exclusively make glass architectural lighting installations. Their website has very little information regarding their history and doesn't mention once that their glass is even Murano made. I guess shape wise this images attached isn't a million miles off. But definitely not a sense of closure yet.

The image referred to is currently in the melogranoblu website, under the section for "Gotham", bottom right corner of main set of images. Of course, that page may change quite quickly. But maybe this Google Image (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=melogranoblu&hl=en&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwibx9-7r4fXAhXHNhoKHShMAakQsAQIOg&biw=985&bih=664#imgrc=3ibbo7BwCge-8M:) will stay around for longer.]

I rather get the feeling that there isn't much known about either currently. The link to the Fossilfly forum that I gave earlier has pretty much all that is available, other than that Vetreria LAG was in Murano up until a couple of years back, and were a party to a case brought between a groups of Murano glassmakers and the European Union in respect of repayments of support grants, in which the Italian government was also involved somehow. From what I read it seems the glassmakers lost their case and had to pay costs. Vetreria LAG seems to have been wound up in Murano and their previous property is shown as empty/semi-derelict on Google Street View. The link to melogranoblu appears to be a more recent lighting only company - again perhaps an earlier company no longer exists. Until one of our members with detailed knowledge of Murano glassmakers comes along we are a bit stuck, so please be patient and wait and see if anyone else can add more to the story.
