Title: "Murano" Horse Heads
Post by: TxSilver on March 20, 2011, 10:06:15 PM
The Chinese make horse heads that look a lot like some of the Murano ones. They have the applied eye rings, similar to those made by Formia and Nason. It is pretty easy to tell the difference. The Chinese horses have the ears set low on the head and the mouth has no detail. The mouth was made by simply cutting the glass, so doesn't have good development. The low ears are the thing most noticeable. It is like they are growing out of the jaw.

I've seen a lot of these horse heads with various decorations being sold as Murano glass on eBay. If you like horse heads, avoid the ones with low ears. There are a lot of good ones to choose from, so no point in paying the same price for a contemporary dud. These horse heads tend to be mishapen, like they were made by someone who never saw a horse.

Thanks for the heads up, Anita.  No puns intended.

Hi Ladies

I totally agree with the Chinese horse busts not being anatomically correct.  There simply isn't another substitute for anatomical perfection.  Zanetti and Formia Murano typify this excellence in the correct body proportions

Ciao

Dean, please quit spamming this group. There is a category to post sales links: the glass marketplace. This is not a casual chat group. There are all levels of expertise on the group, beginner to professional. We do not use this group to promote sales. Period.

You are very welcome on the group. You have knowledge of contemporary Murano that most of us lack. (Alex of Art of Venice is a major exception, of course.) I really would like to learn more about contemporary Murano, so hope you will stay. But please quit promoting your store. Probably half of the people on the group have stores or sell on eBay. It would be a mess if we all promoted in each thread. Advertising in thread, even if no link is provided, is against the guidelines of the group.
