Title: Mdina Stoppered Decanter
Post by: Greg. on August 17, 2012, 12:46:21 PM
A newly purchased piece, which i thought deserved a few pictures.

Early amethyst colouring with random blue glass trailing to the exterior and plenty of silver chloride. Ground and polished pontil mark to the base.

Measures 11 inches tall.

Enjoy.

 :o :o :o
That's a really, really, really nice one - most of them aren't!
Normally, there is very little silver chloride, and the blue strapping over the amethyst tends to look decidedly un-artistic - the sort of "slap it on" without bothering to look - the way I'd achieve if I tried it!

Thanks Sue...I thought it was a particularly nice example....the silver chloride is a real bonus, the colouring to the stopper in particular is stunning.

You have a knack for finding the unusual colours Greg, I would be green with envy if we still had the emoticon.

That's beautiful  :) I like the all over patterning and  the colouring reminds me of fireworks nights.

The stopper looks very "seaweedy".

Thanks all, for your comments. Its certainly got more going on than many of these amethyst decanters, which do look fairly plain sometimes apart from the strapping, the silver chloride streaks do seem to add another dimension, also nice to have one complete with the stopper. - Still no luck encountering a cheap crizzle stone though.... :)
