This is the second id request today, this one has been in the collection for 12 years. Fairly thin, wonderful gourd shape in clear yellow with cobalt lip wrap on foot, shoulder and rim. The lampworked pears on the shoulder are particularly well done. It is about 8 inches tall. Some time ago we saw an image of a Steuben vase with similar fruit, but we have never been able to attribute this to any particular company or artist. All comments suggestions are very welcome.

Your vase appears to be Venetian. The soffiati vases with pears were very popular in the late 1920s-1930s. I have had a few of the pear pieces and have not been able to track them down with any degree of certainty. Companies that made pear pieces include Barovier, Salviati, Venini, and probably Cappellin (Zecchin). There were probably others. The style of your vase fits nicely into the time frame. The Zecchin designs were not signed, even for the Venini pieces.

I agree with Anita Italian glass of the best quality , i would love to give it a home it has all i love about Italian glass .

I just looked up some old records of it. We bought in a antique shop here in town from a dealer who did not know glass. I had Dan Ripley look at it a number of years ago and he thought Salviati. We later saw a auction catalog, that had a stoppered vase with the identical pears, the piece was marked F. Carder, Steuben. Our cost was $100. Hope that helps a little.

I checked my Frederick Carder book (Gardner's The Glass of Frederick Carder). The only pear forms I could find were the covered vases and urns. These had the pear finial. I looked through some hundred line drawings in the book, though, so my eyes could have missed something. I don't recall seeing a Carder piece with pears on the side. Someone else might have more information on this.
The pears on the works by Steuben and the Venetian companies look very much the same. Carder was going for a Venetian look in these types of pieces.

Many thanks for your time and effort. At least we can now elminate that possibility. :hiclp: I will pursue the Salviati etc. reference with more enthusiasim.

And I will double-check the pictures in the book to make sure I didn't miss something when scanning Carder's vase pages. It is a pleasure to look at the designs, but line drawings are more difficult to absorb than the finished products.
