Dought a lot of a few pieces of glass and this little cracker was amongst them. Great quality with an inner white layer that looks like pasta glass. A central red layer completely covered in "black" which has then been cut away and polished on 4 panels to reveal the red ovals. Has label to the base as shown which I have seen on Aureliano Toso pieces, but have no idea who made this beauty so ideas please, I've searched my books and folders without any joy.

I love this – there is a Murano thing with the black, white and red – the facet cutting does make this a little gem – I have no idea of a maker and am in fact going to jump on the bandwagon with a black (really black) vase with a white and red target decoration – it has a concave ground pontil which is unusual for Italian glass?

A name and an era would be nice

Well my first thought was Bianconi, purely on the quality and design though have never come across this silver and turquoise "Made in Italy" label on a Venini piece and definitely no signature. Salviati a real possibility, but in all honesty am none the wiser at the moment.

Can't be sure David, but I've seen similar vases from Poland. Hope I'm wrong and stand to be corrected. Reminds me of a licquorice allsort and looks edible! Yum!

It could be Polish - with the ground pontil - I never thought that - the very fine line ware to base make me think it has age - and it is pure pop art
Anne did you see these recently as modern?
Polish glass from the 60s can be good - the ceramics have started a great interest 'Cmielow' (I have originals that are worth £100s now!) for example - it's the modern Polish 'TK Max' glass I want to avoid LOL
Thanks

Hi David,
A pic. of one was submitted to the WF site some time ago and I seem to remember Polish glass being mentioned if my memory serves me right. I have seen similar ones for sale on carboots since then, and believe them to be fairly modern. I had a Cmielow 60s coffee set which I sold a couple of years ago - very groovy! and wish I had kept it  The only Polish glass that I currently have is a gorgeous huge Tarnowiec vase, but have had modern LSA glass in the past (sold in John Lewis). If I get time, I'll have a trawl through the WF site to see if I can find the vase which I think is similar to yours. 8)
Found the similar looking vase on WF site http://www.whitefriars.com/isit_contents.php?pageNum_Recordset4=134&totalRows_Recordset4=2515&ID=1287 Different shape from yours, but similar colouring/pattern. Have seen these in shorter squatter form.
It also refers to item no.1270, so might be worth you checking that out - got to have brekkie and gasping for a cuppa

Hi
LOL Anne - that thread on W/F is a real stormer, what an argument  - I paid £4.00 for mine so if it's from TK Maxx so be it, Poland, aye that sounds right from the thread and other sources, and brand new
Mine is fat and squat but the shapes will differ - it’s the style and colour
Thanks Anne you found my vase - and what one guy says is true (clever where he got it from) 'Discordia Frangimur' discord does weaken
My cheap Polish vase does not detract from Chuggy's lovely Italian piece, I kinda hijacked the thread - what I should say is there is a common practice I hate these days of dealers selling TK Maxx, LSA as old
IT is difficult - the companies are reproducing old designs
http://uk.shopping.com/xGS-lsa_glass~NS~1~linkin_id-7000343 for Venini look alike from LSA
LSA - get the catalogue - wow beware they have smashed the Scandinavian 60s look alike market and are now turning to Murano
You know I have a sheet of round red/gold ‘Made in Murano’ labels – all old looking – I would never do it but lots would
Anyway Chuggy still love your item, wanna swop? LOL

Thanks for the kind offer Adam, but I think I'll keep this one for a while yet, had an interesting e-mail from a pal in Venice who has seen the label on a couple of Gaspari pieces, but so far no firm ID on this one.
