Title: Pinkish Open-salt 1875

I found this little chap at the car boot last weekend and just got round to looking at it. I presume it's an open-salt, It has a distinctive pink undertone and as you can see has a registration mark.
 
I gather you can trace the maker via the mark - or does anyone recognise it straight off?

I can read it and it was made by  Sowerby 10th September 1875

The details I can see on your larger version translates to 10 September 1875 (the left hand side should have a 6 which isn't visible in the photos)... that would make it one of four designs registered by Sowerby & Co Ellison Glass Works Gateshead-on-Tyne. The design numbers were 294376 to 294379   294378 was a design for a bowl, 294379 was a dish and cover, the other two aren't explained. This is Sowerby round salt pattern 1120, shown on page 41 of pattern book XI (1885), where it is indeed designated as from a registered design.

It is, as Anne says, from Sowerby RD number 294376 or 294377 (both registered on 10 September 1875 - Parcel 6)

Sowerby round salt 1123 (shown on the same page of the pattern book) bears the same registry date lozenge (so is also from RD number 294376 or 294377). There is also an oval version of this salt which is pattern number 123½.

At the moment, I can't tell you which of these Sowerby pattern numbers corresponds to a particular RD number of the pair but, if Paul S. happens by this post, he may be able to provide us with the definitive answer by reference to his collection of Sowerby design representations.

If you did, I don't have a record of it, Paul. I think it was because we were trying to match shapes rather than particular RD numbers from the RD 294376 - 379 bundle.

the three little outturned feet appear to confirm that this salt was Registered originally as 294377 on 10th September 1875.          I've attached both Nos. for the GMB archives - see attached pix.
