Title: Pressed cobalt blue glass vase with mark ID?
Post by: Gill on September 27, 2006, 10:10:17 AM
This is pretty modern I should think, not really any wear but thought it was worth persuing as it actually has a mark. Not all that clear in the photo but it says R in the circle, then a dot followed by an S then what looks like a joined H and O, a bit further on there is a number 1. The vase is 14.5cms tall and has a mould line down 2 sides.  Don't think it's anything special but may as well get to know the marks if there are some, cheers, Gill :)

Not pressed.  Machine mould blown.  R in a circle is/used to be the trademark of Rockware Glass, a large UK bottle maker.  I think this is a specialised but mass produced bottle.

Gill - An easy way to start is simply to look at the inside shape.  If the top is very much narrower than the bottom (like your article) then it cannot possibly be pressed but must have been blown by some means or other.  This is because the pressing process uses a metal plunger to form the inside and it has to be withdrawn from the article.
