Almost certain this is Iittala, Finland - possibly by Tapio Wirkkala?
Can anyone confirm please. Many thanks

May well be Iitala, but I've seen a very similar bowl which I think was by Hoganas Glasbruk, also from Finland.

Hi Anne,
Sorry, I can't find it in my book. There are similar ones, but not this one.
-
Thanks Paul and Della. Hoganas Glasbruk is a new one for me - haven't been able to turn anything up for them yet though (sounds like my fave. icecream :P )
Della - I've been unable to find anything to confirm it actually is Iittala. I've seen the bowl described as such a couple of times recently, c.70s. I think I can safely discount Dartington. It has a Scandi feel. I've got an ultima thule bowl, and it has the same Scandi feel as that one.

Hi Anne,
I have the book 'Designlasin hintakirja' in which it states that it contains all known art glass production of Tapio Wirkkala (and others). It is a little naive in the drawing department, but quite specific on measurements.
The bowl shown, similar to yours, does not have the bowl raised on a base (if you know what I mean). Could I possibly have the measurements of your bowl? Then I can compare them to those in the book for you. :) :)

I think the Hoganas Glasbruk bowl was in Smoke and Ice by Leslie Pina, but I can't check as a friend has borrowed my copy at present.

It's close to the one in smoke&ice but it is not the same one. Also, smoke&ice says it has a Höganäs "made in Finland" label, however the label is depicted in the back and clearly reads "Sweden".
I think it is more likely to be from Muurla, which is in Finland.

Ouch :D

Thanks everyone :P
Della, the bowl is 10" (25.5cm) diam. x 5½" (14cm) high.

I've always thought that this one was Muurla. It is very similar to the other one. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/glassie/misc351.jpg
Confusing thing about the labels :?

Loosely similar:

Hi Anne,
The measurements are way off  sorry. That doesn't mean it isn't Iittala, just probably not Tapio Wirkkala.
The dish in the link Frank gave is in the book.

OK just to sling another idea into the mix - Anne I've seen in a book (can't find it now though unfortunately) a beautiful bowl - very similar but not exactly the same as yours - which was designed by Tauno Wirkkala - the brother of Tapio - for Humppila (Finland). Pip.
-
You can chuck as many ideas in as you wish Pip, I'm very grateful
I've never heard of Tauno Wirkkala - and I hadn't thought about Humppila as a possibility - so thanks for that.
Cripes - the plot thickens  These Scandinavians  I'll do a search on Tauno W. and Humppila and see what comes up.
-
Anne, there's a Tauno Wirkkala bowl for Humppila on eBay.com ... sorry haven't worked out how to link to it (DOH)...

Just this sec. spotted it, and another Humppila bowl which bears some similarities....
 Beaten to it by Frank :P
This one looks more like mine.

Both are far more exciting than my restrained version. Mine doesn't have the same flamboyant uneven edge.
