Title: A Don Richardson vase - finding the maker
Post by: ahremck on April 16, 2011, 08:51:54 AM
I recently - on holiday - came across this nice little Richardson vase.  I suspected it was American from the similarity to other small vases I have from the USA.  As you can see it has a relatively early date and research into Glass artists called Richardson threw up Cathy & Ellen.  Cathy however did not start in hot glass until the early 1990's and the other lady only does stained glass now.  Then I remembered the other vase I have with this most unusual 4-post pontil.

Sure enough Don Carlson (he of the strongly iridescent vase) had employed a Don Richardson for some 20 years up to 1995.  This is thus a Don Richardson vase,

Don Carlson also claims to have invented the device that allows the 4 small pontils.  The effect on his vase is really noticeable because the iridescence goes in and around the actual pontils.

Certainly is Anne.  If you go to the site and select Glass Photos/Lustre Glass New the last photo of Blue with Red Hearts is very similar to my vase.

http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-14830 also shows it and
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-14831 shows mine was made in 1977.

Very nearly my favourite piece - just love irridescence.
