Title: Chance patterns
Post by: chopin-liszt on September 03, 2005, 10:11:56 AM
:D Welcome Robbo :D

I've just been looking at the mumhadthat link, because I've also just been looking at the 2005 Miller's guide to ascertain the date of a Chance dish Max has, and MHT is the specialist that provided the images and prices for Chance in the guide. The prices they have on the site are MUCH higher than in the guide. (which I thought were rather inflated anyway)

Do you mean the trippy 70's flower one?  I wonder if David Encill could help with that?  He's got a list from Smethwick Heritage Centre...  :D

What I'd really like is a photo of each design with it's name.  Maybe there's too many of them though...I have some weird hybrid plates with lacey bits AND flowers on them...ewwww <puke>

:D  I think a list of everything might be quite a tall order!
As far as I know, they even took comissions for patterns. My brother-in-law in London has a plate with a picture of the factory where my partner works (in Dundee) on it! Why anybody would want such a thing is completely beyond me. (Last year, Michael was given a pewter plate with a picture of the factory on it, as part of his 25 years service presentation. It's utterly disgusting. We do not have house space for it. I don't think we could even sell it for anything other than scrap. I've no idea why they waste money on such rubbish.)

Just spotted this thread: working on a list, Max... I will have to concentrate on just the pattern designs (Swirl, Calypto, Lace, et al) and Flowers (Rose, etc.), but am not going to ID all the 'pictorial' ware: dogs, cats, hunting scenes! I may try looking at some 'crestware' in the future - there might be some company advertising and publicity printed glass that could be of interest.

I also have an example of the hybrid lace/flower one, not really my cup of tea but needed for completeness and only cost a squid. That's a paper label in the centre that needs soaking off.

  click to zoom

Just about to update the main 'Chance' thread.
