Title: please help identify these glass tumblers
Post by: Kimmy on September 26, 2007, 02:15:09 AM
Can you help me identify these glass tumblers?  I am not an expert or collector and I need your help.  I have spent many hours trying to identify them using various means such as pouring over the books at Barnes and Noble, looking online, and I even took them to two little local antique “roadhouse” gatherings without any luck whatsoever.  I would appreciate any help you could provide.

Here is what I know about them.

I bought them 30 years ago at a neighbor’s garage sale because I thought they were beautiful.  She told me that they belonged to her mother who had passed away 20 years previous but she had no idea how long her mother had owned them.  She said her mother traveled constantly so she could have picked them up in any state, or country for that matter.

The colors shown in the pictures are a little darker than actual.  They are blue, green, yellow and red.  They are actually pastel and you cannot tell the green from blue unless they sit next to each other.  All have a gold iridescence overlay to them.  I also think they are painted – please look at the close up picture of the red glass and you will see what looks like runs in the paint to me

They are paper thin – even the bottom is very thin.  I am not sure but I think they may be blown because I can feel and see a small circular roughness on the bottom middle of each.  If so, they did a great job of smoothing it out.  There are also a few teeny tiny bubbles in the glass.

Their measurements are 5” tall by 3.5” wide at their widest, 2.25” wide on the bottom.

Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

Kim

I believe they are Dunbar's "Aramis" (ref. "A Century of Carnival Glass" - section on Late Carnival).
