Post by: dreamticket2 on April 07, 2012, 11:28:16 AM
 Small papereight.
It has a lot of wear especially on the base . Glass has small bubble imperfections.
size 1.75 inches diam. 1.25 high approx.
Could it be Baccarat?

Hi.

I understand why you suggest Baccarat, but I don't think it is French.  If it were French you would expect it to be made of lead crystal, and have a concave polished base.  The image suggests a flat, matte ground base, which together with the design and colour of the latticino and the poor glass quality suggests to me an origin further to the east - in Germany / Silesia / Bohemia.

It is a Baccarat/St Louis design, and there are similar C19 pieces by both factories BUT.....

the colours of the glass used are just all wrong. I think it is a copy inspired by those earlier pieces, and my views are even further east. It is a very interesting piece. Without handling it I would have thought Chinese 1930's. They did try and copy a number of French factories, this is a better example.
