Title: Strathearn or Vasart?
Post by: bluejade4 on August 15, 2004, 01:55:23 PM
Hi,

I have a Strathearn or Vasart vase that seems to be v037. It measures about 4 1/2 inches tall.
What throws me about this vase is the rough pontil. It looks like an iron pontil. Who would use the rough pontil?
I would appreciate any help with this vase.

I have pictures of it at:

http://historystreasures.com/greenvase.html

The actual vase is a darker green than my pictures.

Thanks,
Karen

Hi,

I love this vase. My pictures do not do it justice. The actual green is a vibrant green. I will try to take a better pitcher of it.

Thanks,
Karen

Hi Karen,

Yes it is Strathearn V037, the pontil is normal for their small pieces. The seal was only used on larger thicker pieces. When they started to use the seal they experienced problems due to the thinness of the glass and had to increase the thickness, one of the aides to separating unmarked Vasart/Strathearn. It was not practical to use the seal on the 'miniatures'.
