Title: matt green vase - ID = Vladislav Urban for Rudolfova
Post by: Ivo on August 11, 2005, 10:55:51 AM
Mystery vase in a peculiar deep dark teal colour, height is 10" diameter 6", made in a 4 piece mould. The bottom ring is polished smooth, and the surface is acid matt inside and out. So far unable to establish if it is 1930s or 70s - would dearly like to know if anything like it has ever been sighted elsewhere? All opinions are welcomed.....

Title: matt green vase - French, Czech or Swedish?

I've seen one very much like it from Rudolfova Hut (Bohemia Glass - Glassexport). However, I don't know if they made this colour

I think it looks a great piece of glass - and looks very different with the light behind it.

I love the utter confidence of it's design, and the way the matt surface leaves only the motifs and their shadows to admire - as if the designer thought that should be enough for us.

I still think it looks somehow French, but really couldn't say why.

I want it.    :D

In my travels through Swedish glass, I have not seen a work like this.

It has meanwhile been attributed to Vladislav Urban for Rudolfova in 1963 (Nr. 13153)

Thanks for reposting the picture, Ivo. I don't recall seeing it before so am intrigued by it now. That matt green's a very unusual colour for a Sklo Union piece isn't it? In the 1986 Rudolfova Glassexport catalogue on the CD with Marcus' book there's an example given of pattern 13153 so it was still being made then, but with a stated height of 205mm (20.5cm) rather than the 22cm of yours. No clues as to what colours are given in that catalogue and presumably the other sizes were discontinued sometime prior to 1986. Fascinating though.

Strangely enough, a year after this piece moved on to a new owner ( :girlcheer:) I found an identical vase again.  Never seen the smooth version as depicted in the Mark Hill book - only the dark green satinated one.  Maybe the local distributor ordered only this colour? I've come across dark green satinated Sklo Union glass before - but only smaller items like ashtrays.
