Title: A norwegian paperweight
Post by: alexander on November 07, 2006, 10:28:06 PM
Here's a nice little Norwegian paperweight I just bought.

It's made by Hallingglass who makes some nice glass, some of it seems influenced by Benny Motzfeldt and Murano styles imho.

About 7,5 cm tall, 5,5 cm wide, eggshaped.

Reminds me of similar-looking paperweights from Sweden that were plentiful in U.S. department stores in the 1970s. Very clear, heavy glass of the highest quality with feathery and colorful "flowers" or leaf-like creations inside. They were made by F. M. Konstglas of Sweden. The Bergstrom-Mahler book shows one on color plate 82; paperweight number 976.

FM made a lot of neat stuff  :)

The norwegian and swedish makers have a long history of
"cross polination" and sharing talent over the border.

One norwegian maker in particular, Magnor, had a swedish glassworks close by just over the border, Eda.

It was started by Eda to counter problems with import/export taxes, designer and glassblower families in the district worked at both,
even alternating at times.

Some of the greatesy artglass from Hadeland was designed and executed
by Johan Wilhelm Johansson, a swedish immigrant, and his son Willy Johansson.
