Title: unknown green glass duck or bird ornament?
Post by: stemidd on November 10, 2012, 08:57:16 AM
hi all,

i have an unknown green glass duck or bird ornament? and was wondering if any of you glass experts out there could identify it for me as it has no markings, so probably had a sticker on it.
it is 14.5cm long x 7.5 cm high x 6.5cm wide & weighs 610 gram, it is obviously hand blown but has a smooth base.
i know wedgwood did similar but i think they were marked.

any help welcomed
thanks in advance

Hi Steve, I can make a start in helping  by telling you some of the glass makers this is NOT by:

Wedgwood (Some Wedgwood pieces were only stickered, but I can assure you this is not Wedgwood)
Whitefriars
Langham Glass House.
Isle of Wight Studio.
Glory Art Glass Isle of Wight
Kerry Glass
Avondale Glass Pembrokeshire
Selkirk Glass Scotland
Tweedsmuir Glass Scotland.
Jaakko Niemi
Oiva Toika
Finland Art Glass Team
Marcolin
FM Konstglas
Leerdam

I hope this helps to lessen the number of glass companies to look through.

Rosie. :)

Heh heh Steve,  yup!
I could give you a whole list if companies that I don't THINK it is from, but as they are not certainties, I will resist the temptation.

A while ago, someone here on the board asked about a bird that looked very similar and it turned out to have been sold by Next if my memory serves me correctly, but a brief search to find it has proved difficult. It was dark purple I think? It was listed on eBay as well.

Is your bird solid or hollow??

That will be hot worked then, rather than hand blown....I will leave it to the expert glass blowers and those who know more about glass blowing techniques than I, to explain the difference.

It can't be blown if it has no air in it nor a large hole that might have been opened out from a bubble.
