Title: My first (Strombergshyttan) - Any more Info please?
Post by: antiquerose123 on December 15, 2011, 10:56:04 PM
Whew......that's a long word.   LOL

I do not normally really collect Clear glass, BUT because this did have a label on it and signed on the bottom with *something* -- I decided to purchase it.  Smaller heavy type of vase with a etched Swan on it.   Bought it here at a local Auction -- a place here in town here that has lots of glass sometimes at their Sales.

Can anyone tell me more about as to what the writing is on the bottom, the age......and just any info at all.   Any age to it?

It is my first !!   (http://serve.mysmiley.net/party/party0030.gif)

Thanks  :kissy:

It's a flower vase (B for Blomvase) designed 1960 or 1961. The final squiggle probably refers to the engraver.
It is the beginning of a long love affair with clear crystal, I assure you.

Is the glass a pale blue - many of their pieces are but there is a whole range of items similar to Orrefors pieces.  Attached are a few of mine.  Have to Agree with Ivo - their pieces are moreish.  The crackle one seems to be unusual.

Here is another, this one is facet cut and a right old heavy beast.

Strombergshyttan also made some lovely thickly cased drop shaped vases (as did many Swedish glassworks), three examples here, click to the right for two more: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/ScandinavianGlass#5433585336975796498

very nice piece Rose  -  pity the sun was overhead at the time ;).        Couldn't resist including another example, and think the pale blue is very attractive.     You will find lots of references for Strombershyttan on the GMB search  -  and doubtless there is reams on the www. :)

And from the other side of the pond. Both of these are blocks with pressed backgrounds then engraved with a single figure. The Owl simply reads 9251-C1222 while the Eskimo has multiple info. 9/222, R. Strand, L.Swalm. The blocks are large, Owl weighs 4 1/2 lbs. while the Eskimo weighs 6 1/2 lbs. I assume they are just sculptures of some sort. Ken

Just bought a very nice Pwt.  Has a large central bubble surrounded by 4 tori (or toruses) - lovely reflections.

Hi there:

Thanks for all the info.  Yeah, it does kinda have a ice blue tint to it -- but slight.  I liked if for the label, the weight, the signature -- and the thickness of it.

Here is just another base shot.  Thanks again!!

Don't think I will ever remember to spell that long name...LOL   :spls:
