good morning peeps :D
Hoping this is my first piece of MDG Earthtones - looking for confirmation please. (Sue? lol)
I'm guessing from my research this quite boxy, grid-like pattern is more indicative of MDG than the more random wavy pattern of Mdina Earthtones
Bit wonky but I love it.
Cased, ground base, remnants of pontil scar still visible
Ht: 18cm width: 16cm weigh: 1.47kg
cheers!

Quite probably. ;D
A very similar/exact shape to some early Mdina Ming globe vases, so could have been made there, but it's the Boffo way of executing Earthtones. I've got 2, one has a fully polished flat base, the other a fully polished flat base with a roughly ground out round pontil mark.
The only way of being sure is if there's a label or cross prunt, but assumptions can be drawn from considering the different base finishes. Not too many - given the randomness of how things were finished off at Mdina!
However, round ground out pontil marks at Mdina tended to get fully polished.
-
On my MDG, you can actually see the wheel marks on the ground and polished bases. Not on the Mdina
-
Again, not always - unless those are my Boffo bits made at Mdina... ???
It IS difficult when it's not an exclusively MDG shape or colourway.
This shape was definitely made at MDG, there's my amber cased globe (which you gave me, Christine :-* ).

many thanks for the replies ladies :-*
not quite so straightforward then.....as usual lol
so to summarise:
definately Earthtones, probably a Boffo piece but could be either MDG or Mdina
have I got that right?
cheers!

Nearer to MDG than Mdina IMHO
-
And mine too. ;D
But in your summary, Boffo is a lot stronger than probably.
Wonkiness would be because of him teaching apprentices, but that execution of the colourway is not apprentice work.
