Title: paper label for Sowerby
Post by: Paul S. on June 02, 2011, 07:00:20 PM
I can't now find the section showing marks/labels, so not sure whether this one is on the GMB or not  -  however, can always ignore if it is already on the archives.    According to Jackson this indicates a 1960's manufacture (not too long before their demise in 1972, apparently.    Amazing how some pieces can survive with a label intact for half a century, or thereabouts - obviously never used.
Ref.    '20th Century Factory Glass'  -  Leslie Jackson  -  2000.

P.S.     Anne (Mod.)  -   Only just seen your comments about collecting Diamond marks and Rd. Nos. for the GMB reference site??    Do you now have most, or are you still collecting??

:-[  I was so busy being David Bailey that I didn't spot this - obviously you two have sharp eyes.     I've googled a bit, but don't seem able to bring up anything with a 'y'.     We need an expert on dialect spellings from North East England.     Perhaps it was an American printing the labels ;)       Who do we know living in the area?

I thought at the time this spelling was horribly corny, but nobody listened to me!

Paul, the labels albums are here: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/index.php?cat=6 - we do have a Sowerby Tynesyde one there but thanks for thinking of it. :kissy: Re the Registered Designs, we are still collecting examples of any lozenges and number marks - the album for them is here: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/thumbnails.php?album=763 - there seem to be millions of them so we need all the examples we can get please. :)
