Looks very much like the works of Karl Wünsch for Borske Sklo around 1960 - except that Karl signed his works and used a double opaque layer for cutting through - so this may be a later production variant?

I asked Peter to post this, as much to share the images, (which are wonderful, Peter, thank you) as to get confirmation of possible origins. I thought this might have been Wunsch, but it is unmarked, and no opalescent casing left some doubt. Peter's role as relay post is much appreciated, and as isp problems are still causing difficulties here, I felt it might be better for Peter to post images from the UK.

Regards,

Marcus

Judith Miller 20th century glass page 172

Exactly the same piece (height 30.5 cm yes ?) but blue cut through to amber.

Described thus:
Cylindrical vase in pale amber overlaid with blue glass, cut with vertical and horizontal fluting. Probably Czechoslovakian. 1930s.
£90 - 150.
The picture and price estimate were derived from a Dreweatt Neate auction (acording to the coding) - no details when though.

LoL @ 'probably'...

Shame J Miller didn't ask Drewitt what they actually got for it rather than going on a rather broad catalogue estimate!

It is a stunning piece though & before scrolling down to the replies my gut told me Czech - weird!  :?  :o    :D

Dear Peter, can't help but each time I look at your vase it says 'Munsteiner'

http://www.munsteiner-cut.de/

They cut precious and 'semi'precious stones... sometimes natural inclusions cut off to clear
no brillant or emerald cut, just facetting where needed or wanted

This is no help at all, I know, but interesting nevertheless  :?:

Hi,
As Ivo suggested Karel Wunsch, I've checked around, and I have found that these came from Borske Sklo, and a slightly different pattern was issued as pattern number 87007/1036 in the early 1960's. As Ivo hinted these are regular production pieces.

Marcus

Gareth / Taylog
I strongly suspect that the one you found is actually the same colour as this one but appears different due to different photographic / lighting conditions.

Neodymium
I have lived with this vase for a couple of weeks now and photographed it under several different lighting conditions and in different settings.

I now conclude that the base glass is neodymium glass but only in a very pale intensity. The neodymium effect of changing tones under different lighting conditions is definately present but is just very subtle.

It can be seen most clearly in the base but it also affect the tone / color of the flashed (cranberry) layer to turn it various tones of pinkish / purplish according to the lighting. I have tried to show these effects in the gallery of photos above.

Enjoy !
