Hello,
Newbie here.
I have recently been told that the glass vegetables I was about to put on ebay may actually be murano glass. I have a red, a yellow and a green pepper, a garlic bulb and an aubergine. There are no obvious markings/etchings and they were unlabelled. The theory that they may be murano is simply based on the fact that the person that gave them to us would be more likely to buy murano glass although I think they may have come from Barleylands in Essex, UK. Any ideas on how I can determine if they are or not. There is a local auction house I can take them to but thought I'd try via the boards first.

Welcome to the board. If you think they may be from Barleylands (http://www.barleylands.co.uk/glass-pottery-and-blacksmith.html), I would email the glassblowers there and ask if they made them.
The other more likely option than Murano is China. There seems to be a surfeit of Chinese glass vegetables (though ebay would have you believe they were all made in Murano)

I've tried uploading photographs but the files are too big - will keep trying. Have also tried barleylands but no joy I'm afraid. Sworders have said they will take a look at them for me so might go to one of their valuation days. Many thanks.

You need to resize high-res pics so that the longest dimension is about 700 pixels. That should work. Auction houses aren't always that good at glass...

Hello again,
I took these up to the Sworders Auction room today and have been told that there is a "very good possibility" that they are Murano. However, I am hoping that someone on these boards may be ale to confirm ;D .
Where do I go from here? Is there really a market out there for such things?

I do not think that these are Murano - they have worthier things to produce there than fruit and veg. It is cheap and cheerful, not artsy and inspired and does not draw upon the specific Murano glassmaking skills which is their added value.
I have a yellow pepper with a "LaVida"sticker - which is a German glass dealer called Edith Geissler - and they usually get their produce from Poland or from the Baltic states. I also have seen glass veg produced in Spain.

I can confirm that tehse are Murano made. I have also a collection green, red yellow peppers,aubergine and courgette.They are in teh garden of our glass museum along with lemons, oranges, and grape bunches all in glass.
I don't know who made them, but late '90's is my guess.
However there were some smashing giant ones British studio made at the Broadfield House Mueum for sale last August at the Biennale!
Makers name please someone?
