Hi All,
I have bought this lovely little matt glass owl today, and I wondered if it might be an Art Deco radiator cap light or car mascot.

It ism 3" tall and hollow inside, but I have not seen a mascot before and don't know if they are hollow.

The black on the face looks like the remains of enameling or paint, and there is a slight rust stain around the edge of the base.
I can't see any marks on it, so have no idea who may have made it, so it may not be English.

Hello Barbara
I am sure I have seen these sold somewhere as night lights.

Hi Guest and Gareth,
I have emailed the photo's and the question to the mascot site and will let you know what he replies.
I did wonder if it may be a night light, but I haven't seen any of these complete either
I just liked it, and it looked so sad sitting there I had to buy it!

Val St. Lambert, designed by Linda de Sousa, current catalogue price 52 Euros

Hi Ivo,
Many thanks for that but what is it, and when was it made? modern or a bit older?
My eldest daughter loves "Plop the Barn Owl" story ( its a shame really as she's nearly 18 and that book is an easy reading Penguin for ages 7-8  ) and thinks it looks like him!

Hi Ivo
I have just had a look at it, and it doesn't look like mine, as the one I have has a little round plinth thing it sits on, and the ears and feathers aren't right, it seems that the one I have is not as nicely moulded and the mould lines are very prominent, and mine is bigger.
Will have to keep looking.

well spotted. I have an identical one to yours and had not seen the differences between the one in the catalogue and the one at hand. The catalogue one is 95 mm, mine is 75 - if yours is bigger than the Katherine (not Linda - she's a Fado singer!) de Sousa one, they must have been made in various sizes. I assume the VSL version is solid, not hollow.
PS Huts Szkla Irena from Wroclaw, Poland produces a complete range of fake VSL animals - but only free form, not mould blown.
