Title: Caithness Letter Opener
Post by: David555 on September 26, 2005, 01:14:15 AM
Silver plated letter opener - Caithness

I guess this one goes out to Frank and Kev

I have a few like this- 5.5" long - well made with a 1.5cm diam stone

One I am showing has stone with red base - am thinking about listing any idea about dates and designer - the design around the stone and top of opener is really whacky like a prop from the film 'Alien' LOL

Marks to back - raised - Caithness S.P.

Hi,
The letter opener is a Colin terris design from the 1980's.Check out his own web site and click on links and you will find more examples of old Caithness jewellery designs.

Thanks for info - stone seems same as some boxed spoons I have

I used to sell lots of the early 1970s silver on eBay - I can get it cheap (well under £30.00) in Glasgow

But it's fallen away and bits don't make me enough profit so I keep it now, at least it doesn't take up lots of room LOL

I sold a 1980s Chanel Belt (Costume Jewellery) I bought on Holiday for £0.50 with no intrinsic value or real beauty (Karl Lagerfeld one off) for £190.00 on eBay last month and I can't sell these beauties

Sighhhh

Maybe things have changed

I may try again - I always try to end my auctions for a Sunday - 6.00pm till 9.00pm - I get a good 70%+ yield but not as good a profit as on some other days, I'm not greedy it's just not worth my while to make a £5.00 profit

Are there better days than others (my photos and descriptions are always good so no feedback on that please) for ending paperweight auctions and related items.

Any sellers experience appreciated

Not during 'Antiques Roadshow'!

I check ebay every day, and have noticed more things are posted on Thursdays than any other day of the week!  No idea why!  :?

OK, Sundays also is good, but please do try to avoid the 'Roadshow'

Hi,

I usually list on a Friday, to finish either before or after Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Eastenders!

This means that those who can only use the computer at work can leave a bid before going home.

I stopped listing on a Sunday after all the trouble with the site crashing :!:
but have just started to list a few again, but I seem to get a better price on Friday, maybe not so much competition.

I sold my piece of caithness jewellery as a buy it now to the US

   number  7346083955

but it only cost me £8.00 and I needed a quick turnaround, but most makes nearer the £60.00 mark.

Hope this helps,
Barbara

Thanks

Leni (LOL) and Barbara that does help

Friday is actually a good day for me when I think about past auctions

Also, I used to list from 2.00am on which got the USA market - but this means I have to stay up so late for the auction end, I mean I can't help it, I have to    :?  :D
