Title: Hi Sklo, Moser?? Jiri Suhajek?? 70s??
Post by: Andy on September 19, 2008, 02:35:29 PM
Found this on a certain internet auction site, i was convinced it looked Czech,
nobody else bid  ;D
Got it today, and im sure my instincts are correct, or is it wishful attibution :(

Its similar to many Moser, Jiri Suhajek items,
whats the opinion of the panel?  ;)
weighs a kilo, random enamel colours, 6 1/2 " wide, 4 1/4" tall

Hi Andy,
Glass quality looks poor for Moser, and base is not what I would have expected at all, and not vibrant enough a design for Jiří Šuhajek. Studio piece, maker unknown.
Regards,
Marcus

Hi Marcus,
i agree , its not as well finished as well as my other Suhajek piece, on which base is also
polished flat.
Nice organic shape to it, maybe same area? or maybe TK Maxx or similar ,
i dont regognise it though
Cheers

Ive been working on cleaning the inside more, got the 'chemistry set' out and limelite seems
to have done a good job, there was a few good years of grime on the inside,
now looks a lot better, ive added some more photos, maybe Moser was a bit wishful,
i can still see some similarities to a number of Czech designers in the Arnoldsche book,
example , page 94 , students of Kaplicky 1958.
I really quite like this piece, it just feels 'nice' i love the random pattern.
i know i may not find its origins, but im still leaning towards Czech.
Marcus, do you still think im barking up the wrong tree, or any other suggestions?  ;)

Cheers

I might be wrong but i think the shape is very polish.

This style of decoration seems to have been done by Jozefina...

It might be worth checking out Makora and Krosno Glass too.

Hi Andy.  Nice piece ;)

Just a question - what is "limelight" and where can I get it from?  Always happy to try new cleaning products out - or is it some strange concoction that you've made???

Hi Anne,
limelite power gel, probably in most uk supermarkets,
limescale remover,
http://www.choiceful.com/choiceful-id-7492-Lime-Lite-Ultra-Power-Gel-500ml.html

Certainly worked well in this case.

Thanks TC, i can see similarities with the Josefina pieces. I think i will classify it as
'probably Eastern European, 2nd 1/2 of 20th Century'  ;D

Cheers
