Title: Is this murano?
Post by: jjbteach on October 18, 2009, 08:53:22 PM
I was told this was possibly murano.  It is 5"x2" .  Anyone have information on this piece?
Thanks!

Yes I believe it is. The sommerso effect on this one is well done and although I haven't seen a piece exactly the same there are several vases I have looked at that have this colour. You have a good eye to have picked up this piece if you don't know much about Murano.

Thank you so much for your help!  I bought it at an estate sale for $2 along with a murano tutti frutti ashtray.  How do I find out the value of these pieces?
Thanks again!

It depends so much on who made it. You can assume that it will sell for between $25-45 without any id but if someone here can id it then it will be worth more.

This is a nice piece of glass in my book and I don't like ash trays.

Both your pieces are good Murano. I don't collect tutti frutti but it is desirable in the market place.

It looks like Murano to me, too, although there is more clear glass in the bottom view than I would expect to see. I'd want to see a clearer picture before confirming one way or the other.

I think Ardy is right about price, but it depends very much where you sell it. The price you would expect to get varies between eBay, flea market, antiques and collectibles fair, and antique store. Country makes a difference, too. I've noticed that different things sell for different prices in Australia, for example, where Ardy lives. If you want an indication of eBay prices, check off completed listing after getting the advanced search of Italian glass, and typing in square geode bowl, or something like that.
