Title: Erik Hoglund candlesticks but are they?
Post by: glassobsessed on May 25, 2011, 08:51:51 PM
I see these online from time to time, are they really an Erik Hoglund design? They don't look quite right to my eye.

according to this forum they are not by him -
I'll have another look round - they never looked right to me either (but that's not saying much).

from searching it appears they are by Gunnar Ander for Ystad.

Whereas the ones in this link I do think are Hoglund :)

I am confused, I don't think they are by either designer, neither Hoglund or Ander.  From here, they look like cheaply made tat pimped up with an attribution.

The Jacksons link to the candelabrum (not 'floor chandelier' surely......) looks much more like it.

well... I think your summing up is a little errrr harsh  ;D but I agree - I've always thought they look 'gift shop' every home will have one type thing to be honest  :-[
Anyway, having read the thread on the first link I gave, the piece at the top seems to be slightly different to the others in that it is apparently marked Ystad Metall made in Sweden.  And it looks a little different to me to the one below it ( which is v similar to the one that started your link).
Further down that link, someone says that Ystad Metall did Hoglunds candelabra and Boda the glass bits.  mmmm, a bit more interesting searching to be had me thinks.

This bird is marked to the base Ystad Metall - I know that doesn't help with the designer but it does help to know who manufactured it.

Mmm, wasn't exactly sitting on the fence last night was I?

Perhaps tat is too strong, not that there is necessarily anything wrong in general with tat or things that are cheaply made either. :-[

Ystad may well be responsible for the candlesticks too going by the same colours in the glass fittings.

Just thought I would give this a bump as there are several on ebay at the moment being mis sold as Boda and Erik Hoglund. They are neither.
