This is not the label shown in Hill's book so I am wondering if it is an earlier one.

It looks like Summer Fruits (but I don't know which fruit) which has beeen in production since '93.
Suzygpr has a vase with the 30year anniversary label, I can't remember what it looks like, sorry. It may well be like this. It might be a bit longer though.
Brain awol atm. :-[

Michael Hill's picture does not include that rather scrappy bottom line "The Original" - and he mentions a somewhat more rectangular label - hence my ponder.

;)
I know, I checked.
In absence of the piece I know was part of the 30year anniversary label, I've just looked at the labels on bits do I have which are quite recent - they have the "the original" written at the bottom too.
Some are dated 2009, some 2006.
I think this label is simply the most recent. I'm fairly sure the 30 year anniversary one is rectangular and has "30 years of excellence" written on it. Suzy can confirm!
-
'The Original' was added to labels around 1993 as there were more and more glass companies opening on the Island, there were quite a few label designs used, not all are listed in the book. Although labels without 'The Original' were continued to be used for a while until the stock of them ran out.
All this is in the book, page 136.
I'm attempting to attach a pic of the 30th Anniversary label - if it works Yay! If not I'll post again and include it there.

Thanks to all.

You're a star, Suzy!

Although I'm not posting much at the moment I'm still lurking around in the background, so prod me again if needed.
Like you Sue, I checked all my labelled pieces and the gold square label that includes 'The Original' is only on my later pieces (within the last 10 years). As far as I know it's the label they are currently using.

"The Original" is not entirely accurate as they were not the first glassmaker on the island....

I believe the small square label with 'The Original' was first used in 1996. Mark's book on page 136 doesn't actually say it was used earlier than this.

:help:
I was wondering if a kind moderator would please change the title of this thread? :hi:
The Anniversary label was for the 30th anniversary, not the 25th, and as 25th is in the title, it could lead folk who don't read the whole thread to think there was a 25th anniversary marked with a special label...... and another wee myth could end up being perpetuated.
-
Is that better Sue? :)
-
Much better, Anne - "Myth-Stamper-Extrordinaire"
-
"A larger, rectangular 25th Anniversary gold label was introduced to commemorate the studio's 25th anniversary in 1997. This was used until a similar 30th anniversary gold label was introduced for this event in 2002."
Michael Mark Hill - Michael Harris (Mdina ....................) page 136.
I think my title was in fact correct, assuming Mr Hill was correct in his facts - don't you.
Ross
Mod: Mark's name corrected

:thud:
Oooooops! You're absolutely right, Ross. :-[
So does anybody have a 25th anniversary label which could be photographed and posted in this thread to keep things right? - then perhaps a moderator would kindly put both years in the title?
-
Poor wee topic is getting dizzy! :ho: Is that better now? :X:
-
My fault, Anne, I'm very sorry indeed. :ooh:
But we still need a kind somebody to produce an image of the 25 years label, and then it can be put to bed quietly in the "resolved" or perhaps even "archive" section, with these labels clearly illustrated. :t:
Surely somebody must have one! It was used from '97 - '02.
I've got coach-bolt marks, flame marks, triangular black labels, square black labels, a clear square label, gold square labels and gold square "the original" labels. I have even discovered one horribly worn and illegible 30years rectangular label (Suzy's was still needed, honest! :pb: ). I don't have a 25 year one.
-
Ross, Mr Hill might like to be called Mark, not Michael ;)
-
No worries Sue! :kissy: and now we have the country forums we don't need to archive or resolve topics, cos the country forums do that automagically. :) It would be good to have a 25 year label though...
