Title: Steuben?
Post by: Linsmins on September 15, 2012, 10:09:05 PM
Is this globe vase (carboy)a Steuben?, only throwing out a line because of the polished indented pontil
and when I bought it there was another American piece (milk glass) on the same stand.
Quite heavy, 6.5" high x 6.5"dia. the purple trailing spirals from heavy overlay at the bottom to become
part of the main piece by the time it reaches the neck.

No. It's most likely Polish and definitely fairly new. Appears at every flea market and all over ebay as Whitefriars, which it's not.
(If you don't know who made an item, it should always be posted in glass, unless it's a paperweight.)

These were sold by Woolworths prior to its demise. Here's a link to Emmi Smith's blog:

The label doesn't give a country of manufacture.
