Title: Unusual moulded vase - ID = Ruda glasbruk Sweden
Post by: Tony G on August 30, 2012, 08:29:38 AM
Hi,
can anyone identify this odd vase. It is 7" long by 5" tall and 3" high. It is moulded with a general ripple effect surface except for geometric shapes in all 4 sides. I am not sure if it is a single glass or cased but it has a base pontil reminiscent of Whitefriars although clearly NOT a Whitefriars piece.

ALL Photos are reproduced with the kind permission of the owner (on e-bay) who is keen to discover the maker.

Thanks,

It is a standard ground and polished pontil mark used by all glassmakers worldwide since the end of the 18th century.

Can easily see why these and the 'bark' type vases were often confused with Whitefriars in the past Tony even down to the lovely 'willow' colour
You learn something new everyday I was always led to believe  a neatly ground and polished pontil mark on the base was a sign of a 'better quality' maker.
