I found this bowl today and I looked at all the Murano labels and could not find this label. Thank you for any help.

Hi Beth, the label's not too clear so it's hard to make it out. Could you do a closeup of the label please? If your camera has a macro mode it may help to use that (it's usually a little flower symbol to show it's in macro mode), and then you should be able to get a good clear image from around 6-9 inches away from the label.

Thank you Anne, I tried again, I hope this works

When I click on the picture I can make out Genuine Veneitan Glass and the bottom reads Made In Murano Italy.

Much better, thanks Beth. The initial across the banner look like I & E D, is that right?

Anne, thank you! Yes, it is I&E.D

Hello everyone! My hubby took a much better pic of the label than I ever could. Here it is, fake or real? Thanks again!

It is me again ::) sorry but, I was also wondering who made this bowl? It has a footed bottom made the same way as the edge is. Thanks again! :spls2:

Hi I suspect your label is an importer's label. I did find this http://www.burchardgalleries.com/auctions/1999/aug2299/aug2299r.htm (http://www.burchardgalleries.com/auctions/1999/aug2299/aug2299r.htm) see No. 74 , although they've interpreted the label as L & ED

Hi Beth,
Wait for an expert here, but to me, your bowl looks like generic Murano tourist glass from the first half of the 20th century. I've had a small jug, a labelled vase and a fazzoletto vase with the same effect. Are there gold flecks in the applied rim?
All the best,
Cathy

Hi Cathy, thank you for looking! Not really, looks like just the handles have the gold. I saw one like it on ebay but, that one was round, this one is square. I may hqave to throw it against the ebay wall and see if it sticks! LOL! :o

I frequently see this type of glass. I noticed that it doesn't sell well, so I thought it might be good looking generic Murano. Then I ran across the newsletter at http://www.chinapdf.com/PDF-samples/Food/www.vetri-italianglassnews.com-websitesample.pdf. The newsletter is written by some well-respected Murano experts -- don't let the "China" throw you off. :) The vases on page 15 made me wonder if Aureliano Toso may have made the fili pieces such as this one. The author wasn't sure, but apparently thought the fazzoletto of good enough quality to mention.
I think the mezza filigrana pieces are very pretty and very well made. The baskets are not well finished, but the vases look very nice to me.
