Caithness Glass - Studio Glass not paperweights
Labels and dates of Labels
From my collection I propose the following but am open to suggestions (may be wrong)
First label from a smokey vase by Domnhall Obroin - mid 60s 70s
Second label from neodymium vase mid to late 60s onwards - have this label on paperweights early 70s
Bit of a gap I believe - need labels from late 60s to mid 70s
Third label late 70s to 80s - 90s
Fourth label Caithness Crystal label from 80s onwards
Any suggestions additions welcome

Then there is the etched marcks - sandblasted marks to bases - what date did they start

Ref 20th Century Factory Glass by Leslie Jackson pp49 - "In 1988 Caithness bought Wedgwood factory at Kings Lynn which operated as Caithness Crystal ... designed glass decorated with threads of coour such as Panach"
The last label comes from the Panach range I think - so from this source we know the Caithness Crystal label to be quite late on in the 80s
Millers Glass Fact File by Ivo Haanstra (of this board) pp28 "The logo CG was in use in the 1960s, label Caithness since circa 1970"
Leslie Jackson says as much in her books label secttion
But there are varients which I am interested in - see above different CG labels

Adam, I suspect the answers to your questions will be in the new book on Caithness Glass just out, by Mark Hill: http://markhillpublishing.co.uk/?p=3527# :)

Hello,
Mark's book is very useful, but, as he states in a small piece at the back of it, it is an introduction to Caithness rather than the magnum opus :) I recommmend buying it, especially since it's not likely to be superceded in the near to medium future.
Your first label is early 1960's
The second, late 1960's - 70's.
Although only the one with pink writing is mentioned in Mark's book as 1990's - 2000's, I would expect both three and four to refer to the same period.
You are missing two labels - 1980's and 2000's.
From a piece that I have, the etched mark to the base was certainly used for a series dating from 2002 - in this case by Helen MacDonald - so I'm guessing that the etched/sandblasted mark is 2000's.

Thanks Anne and Nigel
Good help Nigel - must buy book and research those missing periods
Meanwhile here are two pieces from Crystal range labelled and stamped - vase 10" - bowl 5.5" high

........and just to illustrate the point of how useful the book is. Go to the section for "Stripes & Mottles" and you find these two vases come from the Flamenco series.

Another plastic label from a Rough Cuts Bowl. Sorry about the fuzzy image - me rushing the photo.

Oh yes don't forget this warning that is on some weights. I was puzzled until I realised it was warning that the weight might act rather like a magnifying glass and start a fire.

In the interest of making this thread useful to others, the plastic label Ross has posted is for the 2000's. (ie. Not the one on the p/w warning about sunlight!)

Here's a label from one of the "Sea Shanties" fishing floats issued in 1986:

Then there is the etched marks - sandblasted marks to bases
Interestingly, this mark was mainly used on glassware - but occasionally also on paperweights. I do not know when, however.

And this one found on a Caithness vase 1980s
