Title: Caithness Poppies
Post by: adam20 on September 22, 2011, 03:13:04 PM
Caithness Poppies - Not in Caithness Paperweights by Colin Terris (2nd edition) - Vases are in Mark Hill's book pp83 - same poppy forms within the range - 4.25" high marked to base 'Poppies' B233/8 - Any further information on this welcomed.

Thanks Adam

I would say this is Red Poppies from the Flower Crystal Series (http://www.scotlandsglass.co.uk/cms/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=4396&category_id=51&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=6).

You find it on page 62 of the Charlton catalogue - problem is: if you search the index, you won't find it when looking for Poppies - you have to look for Flower Crystal.

Two possible solutions:
1. Do a Full Search on ScotlandsGlass (http://www.scotlandsglass.co.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_search&view=search&Itemid=25): this would have found this one - but is not yet complete.
2. Send me the images - with permission to use them for ScotlandsGlass (if required): my database right now contains info on 4326 Caithness paperweights (and related items, like perfume bottles). This will all go online eventually - but will take it's time.

Is it OK to use your Poppies images for ScotlandsGlass? Original images sent by mail (see icon on the left side), preferrably with a white (or at least uniform) background would be even better ;D.

Thanks Wulf.

I see the item on page 60 of Charlton catalogue.

Will email you pics with white background - free for you to use as you want.

Thanks Adam

I see the item on page 60 of Charlton catalogue.
Interesting !

I checked the web for images of the cover - and found 2 slightly different ones (bottom - right hand corner):
1. "Second Edition - Colin Terris" in a single line.
2. "Colin Terris
     2nd Edition" in 2 lines.
Looks like there are 2 printings - which may differ in pagination as well.

Mine is the second type - and yours?

Just a few page and CT numbers (my copy):
p.  2: Issues of 1969 (CT-1A ..... CT-1D)
p.  3: Issues of 1970 (CT-2 ...... CT-4D)
p.56: Issues of 1984 (CT-339 ... CT-346)
p.63: Issues of 1985 (CT-391 ... CT-398)

Flower Crystal Red Poppies (CT-390) is the last image on page 62.

How does that compare with your copy?

Sorry Wolf - my mistake - it is page 62 as I have same copy as yourelf - interesting point you raise, though I have never heard the pages are different in first edition.

Sorry again.

STOP - before anyone gets confused.

The First Edition (http://www.paperweights.com/bk_terris1.htm) was a different book - published in 1999 - with a different layout (http://www.paperweights.com/bk_terris1ins.jpg) - so obviously page numbers cannot be compared.

The Second Edition was published in 2004 and is more widespread. My assumption of differences in paginations was based on you mentioning page 60 (instead of 62) for the pw in question - now there is no difference for this pw - and most likely none at all.

I apologise for any confusion - I am not familiar with the first edition so was wrong to comment on it.

The pw is page 62 of second edition (ct 390) as said and as Wolf points out.
