Title: uranium 'uplighter' shade.
Post by: Paul S. on August 26, 2012, 06:01:17 PM
sold to me as a vintage wall shade, although seller didn't comment it was uranium.       Something like 10"  x  9", and looks/feels a very crisp/sharp pressing.    No mould seams as such, since assume a two piece mould which when closed automatically cuts off any excess glass from edges.     Reminds me of a style of late deco cinema wall shade from 1930 - 40's.
Marked on the concave rear edge 'FAIT EN BELGIQUE' - and I've tried the VSL pages on Pamela's pressglas-pavillon, but not aware of seeing anything like this - although assume this means 'Made in Belgium'  -  and assume I'm missing the original metal holder of sorts.     Sorry if pix aren't too great.           Does anyone have any ideas of date or factory, and thanks for looking :)

Yes it's a shade from a wall lamp - a metal cup-type thing which it slots into - I love these! I have two of the shell ones: http://yobunny.org.uk/gallery1/displayimage.php?pid=521.

There are several designs in the catalogues I've browsed on Pamela's site, and it's worth running a search of the board for that 'FAIT EN BELGIQUE' stamp as this has been discussed before in connection with glass believed not to have been Fait en Belgique! :)

thanks Anne  -  looking through the search facility for this wording, it looks less than straightforward, and as I'm not at home this week will probably take me longer than usual to digest.         Presumably you don't have your examples wired up for use  -  I guess there's the old issue of adequate earthing to consider.          I thought this one was cheap at £2, although doubt that I'll find the metal wall bracket.

Yes they are Paul, in fact one of the other pics in the album shows them lit. If they are earthed properly, as ours are, then they are fine; ours are in use on the bedroom wall.

Yours is a pretty unusual design Paul. They are generally shells like Anne's
