Title: 1974 Mdina Chalice - is this a Said signature?
Post by: goyjus on September 12, 2011, 04:58:31 PM
Hello. I'm pretty sure this is a Said signature but would anyone be able to confirm?

Any additional info would also be hugely appreciated. Many thanks

I think that's Eric Dobson.

Here are both, so you can decide, Dobson first.
Dobson's mark tends to be quite "spikey".

Of course, I think other folk did actually "sign" the names for them sometimes!

Cheers for this Christine. Can't make up my mind. The beginning bit looks like the signature on my Mdina Fish. But the end looks like your Dobson signature. Maybe they were on job share that day  ;D

I don't mind being confused with Christine  ;D

....to be honest, she sorts my confusions out beautifully when we're together!

John goes for using the end stroke of the mark - if it points up it's Said, if it points down, it's Dobson.

I go for the spikiness.... and if it looks like an "n" at the end......

Well that's alright then.

Sounds like a useful rule of thumb. Cheers to you and John in absentia!
