Title: Golden amber vase with spikes
Post by: Pip on October 24, 2006, 09:48:49 PM
Hello - me again  :D   Here is another one of hubby's finds, he bought it a month or so ago on one of his trips to buy milk and came back with this lovely vase.  I've Googled and checked all my books and haven't found anything similar to compare it to.  As you can see from the picture it has a spike on each side (from the side on the vase is very slim).  It's obviously very good quality, is nice and heavy and has a flat polished base with no markings unfortunately - any help would be appreciated as always ... TIA

Just from studying this single photograph, I'd say the vase is Murano, and a very nice Muranese at that.

Really?  Gosh - you know, I'd never even considered it might be Italian.  Thanks ever so for taking a peek.  Would you be interested in seeing it from a couple of other angles - I could post some more photos here if you'd be interested in taking another look?

Hi,

I think the label on the Glaskilian example is Lednické Rovne (see the labels section of 'C20th Factory Glass').

Czech, sounds more like what I was originally thinking I must admit.  Although the rim of this is very similar in shape and finish to a Poli vase I have.  It's a nice vase though - very tactile - I don't really mind who made it (well OK I don't want it to be Chinese)...

Probably designed by Jaroslav Taraba, who was known for vessels of this type. (1960's)

Thanks Marcus - how on earth do you remember all the names?     I shall investigate JT further.

Hi Pip,
Just anally-retentive I guess
There was a major retropective of his work in Bratislava somewhere @ 2003, held in the museum. I have written for the catalogue, but am still awaiting a reply. Just a reminder, LR was in the Slovak part of the former Czechoslovakia. This is more accurately Slovak glass. These would therefore NOT carry "Bohemia Glass" labels. LR still exists and uses the brand name "Rona".
Regards,
Marcus

Just wish I could remember how to spell properly
Retrospective, of course, has an S in it. "Go to the back of the class, Newhall".
